.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 300 AM CDT Tue Jul 29 2025
TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...They storm system that brought strong
winds across the region overnight has excited to the southeast,
with just some residual anvil cirrus lingering across the
region. Where skies were clearing across western Minnesota,
patchy fog developed, and this will last into the morning before
clearing out later today. At the surface, an area of high
pressure will slowly build in. However, areas across southern
Minnesota will still have mid-level lapse rates around 7 to 8
C/km, and MLCAPE values in excess of 1000 J/kg. The forcing for
ascent is weak, but a few scattered storms are expected to
develop later today, and tonight, and last into Wednesday. There
is a marginal risk for severe weather and excessive rain since
the storms will be fairly slow moving and Pwat values will be
around 1.75 inches. These broader coverage for storms will be
across Iowa, where there is a slight risk for severe weather and
heavy rain.
THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY...Looking ahead, high pressure will
slowly slide across the region toward the Great Lakes, and this
will keep the Upper Midwest dry through the rest of the week. By
this weekend, return flow on the western side of the surface
high will lend itself to small chances for showers and
thunderstorms again. At this point, a few storms could be slow
moving and produce locally heavy rain, but the overall concern
for hazardous weather is low.
